Ministry of Public Works and Housing - Amman-Zarqa Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
The Amman Zarqa corridor is a heavily used transport corridor with an estimated 150,000-200,000 daily trips between the two cities. The City of Amman has a population of about 2.8 million and is expected to grow to over 5 million by 2025. The City of Zarq, located about 20 km to the northeast of Amman, currently has a population of 1 million. Existing demand is high and is predicted to rise in future.
The project includes high-capacity buses that can carry more than 120 passengers and will run on a three-minute frequency during peak hours on segregated lanes. The project will help reduce traffic jams on the highway connecting the two cities and will reduce the transport time for passengers from around 40 minutes to 20-25 minutes.
