NCOC - Kalamkas-Sea Offshore Oil Field

Kalamkas-Sea - is an offshore oil field, located in shallow water in the North Caspian Sea, 150 kilometers north-west of the Buzachi peninsula, Arytau region.

The oilfield began exploration and development in 1979 and was discovered on September 3rd 2002. Offshore Kalamas-Sea field has a total of 104 million tons of the general reserves of hydrocarbons with 41 million tons recoverable and 13 productive deposits with over 510 million tons of oil reserves. The geological reserves of the field are estimated from 160 million tons of oil up to 1 billion tons.

The Kalamas-Sea field is a part of Kashagan Caspian Sea field, that was discovered in 2000 and contains of five separate fields - Kairan, Aktote, Kashagan Southwest, Kalamas A and Kashagan. Kashagan Field is the largest oil field to be discovered in the last 40 years with total area covering over 2,125 square miles with potential reserves estimated as 70 billion barrels.

The Kalamkas-Sea field is being developed by a group of oil companies that are engaged in the North Caspian Sea Production Sharing Agreement (NCS PSA) and who decided to merge into one company - North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC).
