Al Jubail Petrochemical Complex (Kemya) - Elastomer Plant (Overview)
The joint venture of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) and US based ExxonMobil Chemical plans to build an elastomers plant complex that will produce approximately 400,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of carbon black, rubber and thermoplastic speciality polymers. In line with the plans, they have signed a Heads of Agreement to manufacture the plant that produces synthetic rubber products at their Jubail complex. The deal describes the primary terms including scope of the project, technology, marketing and feedstock supply.
The purpose of the project is to have new downstream units at Jubail. The project will also look at establishing units to produce thermoplastic specialty polymers including methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) back-cracking and butyl EM.
