AES - Son My 2 Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant
The Son My 2 is a $1.7 billion combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) project, which will be located in the south-central province of Binh Thuan, Vietnam. The Son My 2 plant will have a 20-year contract with the Government of Vietnam and is expected to achieve financial close in 2022 and begin commercial operations in 2028.
Previously designed to be a coal power plant, "Son My" is planned to be divided into two, Son My 1 and Son My 2, where both are going to be a combined cycle power plant situated in Binh Thuan.
The project is expected to contribute to the development of the local economy. The power plant and terminal project will play an important role in shaping Vietnam's energy future, by diversifying energy sources in combination with imported LNG, as well as meeting a demand for the country's growing affordable and sustainable electricity.
