Pertamina - Balikpapan Refinery Upgrade (RDMP RU 5) - Overview
Indonesia has been experiencing a shortage of fuels and relies heavily on imports to meet local demands. In order to satisfy these demands, Indonesia's President has given Pertamina the green light to further improve its existing refineries in the country. Pertamina has expressed their intentions of increasing the capacity of Balikpapan refinery from 360,000 barrels per day. The state-owned oil and gas corporation also aims to boost the quality of fuels produced from the Balikpapan refinery in East Kalimantan; the refinery is to be modified to produce fuels compliant with Euro 4 specifications for sulphur standards. The revamp will include the addition of a new crude distillation unit and other supporting units. The upgrade will be done in two phases.
